Today my outreach has included [url=http://www.farmtoschool.org/]FARM TO SCHOOL[/url] which provides healthy local produce to schools and some ot the [url=http://utahsown.utah.gov/]Utah’s Own[/url] companies to see about sourcing local food for my vending machine business and to serve in to the students in general.
I got a work study job in the aforementioned department and will be working on the Buy Local campaign as well as Farm to School! First I will be working on getting students and staff for a cooking demonstrations at the State Fair, as well as assisting the other chefs on the different days. Additionally, I will be working with a residential juvenile treatment government agency to get more local food into their menu.
Purchases of Locally Produced Foods - The bill eases bidding restrictions for school districts trying to acquire locally grown foods. With this new language, school nutrition programs could use geographic preference in procuring locally grown items. This change should help expand participation in farm to school programs.
In OREGON, Democrats are tackling the nutrition issue. On the Oregon House Democrats website, you can read about an innovative nutrition program known as farm-to-table or farm-to-school. HB 3601 establishes the Oregon Farm-to-School and School Garden Program to promote nutrition education and wellness in Oregon’s schools. It was signed by the governor on March 11.

Programs like the Farm to Restaurant Campaign, the Farm to School program, and Livingston HealthCare’s budding “farm to hospital” program are meeting with success and garnering state-wide interest, according to Wilcox.
The NH Farm to School Program connects local farmers and K-12 schools to integrate fresh, healthy foods into schools at prices that work for school food service. Over half the schools in the state participate in the program, making local apples, cider, and other foods available to all students.
I am reminded that here in Ventura County, where we are lucky to have people working on innovative farm-to-school programs, institutional and policy obstacles prevent them from fully realizing the potential of these programs.
